Our Mission: Vanguard Virtual High School creates a safe and empowering learning community through a rigorous and personalized educational experience.

Before applying to VVHS, please read all of the information to ensure that VVHS is an environment in which your student can thrive and be successful. Online school requires family support, a student who can work independently, and stable internet access.

Instruction and Student Requirements

VVHS offers mostly asynchronous instruction where students will use the Schoology platform to access coursework. Although the work is provided to students one week at a time, VVHS courses are not self-paced. Coursework may include instructional videos, reading materials, assignments, quizzes, and tests. While this is asynchronous, it requires daily work in each class. There may also be occasions where your student needs to attend live Zoom sessions and/or attend in person at the VVHS Student Center located at the Franklin High School Annex. More information on in-person attendance requirements is included below.

Weekly Homeroom Zoom

Students are required to attend a weekly homeroom Zoom meeting every Tuesday, at 10:30 AM. During these weekly meetings, teachers and students will walk through weekly agendas and discuss upcoming school events and academic needs.

High Stakes Tests (ACT, AP, EOC, PSAT)

According to the mandates from the state, students must take high-stakes tests in person. VVHS will communicate dates, locations and times well in advance.

In-person days at the VVHS Student Center located at the Franklin High School Annex

We offer weekly in-person days every Wednesday, and all students are encouraged to attend; however, students who are not making adequate academic progress will be required to attend. At least once per quarter and possibly more, some teachers may require a test to be taken in person. All of this information will be provided to families through their teachers' syllabus once the course begins. It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to provide transportation to and from the VVHS Student Center.

Daily Attendance

VVHS follows the same attendance requirements that all Williamson County Schools do. Attendance is based on academic progress in each course. Detailed information regarding due dates and when attendance will be reported will be communicated to students and families on a regular basis. Students are expected to make progress in every class every school day. Please be aware that students are unable to access WCS accounts outside of the United States.

School Calendar

VVHS follows the Williamson County Calendar; this includes any adjustments or changes due to inclement weather, etc.

Sports

Generally, incoming freshmen who have not attended another high school are eligible for TSSAA-sanctioned sports at their school of zone. Rising sophomores, juniors and seniors may be ineligible for TSSAA-sanctioned sports if they played at their zoned school. If you have specific questions about this or applying for a waiver, please reach out to District Athletic Director, Patrick Whitlock.

Application Process

The applications below will be open from January 5, 2026, through February 28, 2026.

Applications are ONLY for students wanting to attend VVHS fully online and living in Williamson County. If you are interested in taking hybrid or summer courses online through your school of zone, please speak with your school counselor.

Applications will only be reviewed after all parts have been completed. Applications with only 1 part completed or that are missing information will be disregarded. If a parenting plan is in place that includes joint decision making, we MUST receive a form from BOTH parents before reviewing.

Submitting an application does not guarantee enrollment. Families will be notified via the email provided in the parent/guardian application between March 1, 2026 and April 1, 2026, regarding the status of each student’s application. Parents will have one week to accept or decline the seat. If no response is received within the week, your student's seat will be forfeited and enrollment for the 26-27 school year will no longer be an option.

Accepting a seat at VVHS means students will be transferred from current schools to VVHS, and it is a year-long commitment. Rising seniors will graduate from VVHS.

Important Admission Information

What does a typical day look like for students?

Teachers will post a weekly rollout of instruction, assignments, quizzes and tests via Schoology. Teachers will also offer live instructional opportunities regularly.
Students will complete course work independently and work with teachers as needed.

What is required weekly?

What supports does VVHS have in place for students to be successful both academically and socially?

V.I.P.E.R. Days (Vanguard In-Person Enrichment and Remediation Days) take place at our Student Center at Franklin High School Annex, where students can connect with other VVHS students, homework help, meet with your teachers, and ACT and test prep. Some classes will also require in-person unit tests to help get students acclimated to our staff and space so they are better prepared for state testing.

For students who are failing 1 or more classes, VVHS requires they attend an in-person intervention meeting each week they have a failing average. At these meetings, the student team works with students to determine what issues they are encountering and create individual plans to get back on track. The goal for all students who attend is to reach academic success by bringing class averages up to passing in all classes within 1-2 weeks.
