School Counseling
The Vanguard Virtual High School Counseling Department is dedicated to assisting all students in reaching their full potential. School counselors address the diverse needs of all students by helping them to acquire competencies in college and career readiness, knowledge of self and others, and social and emotional development. They provide guidance on academic achievement, such as high school course selection, time management skills, and graduation requirements. Counselors assist students in developing realistic educational and career plans based on a clear understanding of themselves, their needs, interests, skills, and the realities and possibilities of the worlds of education and the workplace.

VVHS Recommended Student Criteria
In order to set our students up for success, we have determined ideal criteria for the online learning environment. Vanguard Virtual understands that the online environment may not suit every student or may better suit a student than traditional/in-building learning. For those reasons, students interested in enrolling in our school are required to complete an application process. Students who do not meet the criteria below but are interested in applying will have an opportunity to provide explanations regarding those circumstances.
Based on data collected from previous school years, we have determined that the below may be foundational to a student’s academic success at VVHS.
All applicants should
- be motivated and self-directed in regard to academic learning.
- have access to a distraction-free work area and a strong internet.
- be able to learn in a mostly asynchronous environment while completing work on a daily basis, Monday through Friday, on school days.
- be able to prioritize working on school work for an average of 6-7 hours per day, the equivalent number of hours on a traditional school day, each school day.
- have strong self-advocacy skills and a willingness to reach out to VVHS staff when assistance is needed.
- have a minimum of a 2.0 grade point average (GPA) at the high school level. All rising freshman applicants should have a minimum of an overall "C" average in their 8th grade courses.
- have no more than four (4) unexcused absences during the previous semester.
- complete all mandatory new student induction activities required by VVHS. Summer attendance is not a requirement for any activity.
